High Intensity Radiated Field Testing
HIRF: External Environment Protection for Civil Aircraft
DNB Engineering offers High Intensity Radiated Fields testing. As a recognized expert in EMC testing, we offer the latest requirements of HIRF testing.
Our facilities use an advanced system in RF Reverberation Chambers to provide testing in frequency ranges between 100MHz and 40GHz. With 30kW Pulsed Cavity Oscillators and 10kW Pulsed TWTA, our equipment provides Peak field strength level up to 25,000V/m. The average field strength level is up to 2,000V/m.
Our custom hardware and software systems allow us to furnish fully automated Radiated Susceptibility testing using Mode Tuned methods. The above mentioned methods are required by RTCA/DO-160 E, F, MIL-STD-461. The Mode Stirred Methods are described in RTCA/DO-160G specification.
The use of dedicated RF Amplifiers with output power up to 30,000W allows us to perform system-level tests for severe radiated field levels. With that said, we can meet the levels of RTCA/DO-160, MIL-STD-464, and the Army’s ADS-37A-PRF specification. The size of equipment we test can vary from a matchbox to a firetruck. The RF Reverberation Chambers’ usable volume can facilitate entire Aircraft Flight Control Systems or Helicopter Cockpit Equipment. With that volume, we can deliver a full Level A Flight Control Certification tested with the RTCA/DO-160 Section 20 RS Categories G & L.
DNB Engineering is constantly working on the implementation of the newest test methods. We have a long list of clients we have performed system-level RTCA/DO-160GRE tests using a Reverberation Chamber.
DNB is capable of performing Shielding Effectiveness testing for materials or equipment. We offer the Nested Reverberation Chamber method per SAE-ARP5583A specification and IEC 61000-4-21: EMC part 4.
Our control and measurement system captures real-time test data from all equipment involved in the testing process. For example, we capture data from field monitoring antennas, fiber optic coupled field probes, and forward power measurement systems. We can integrate a customer control system into our RF Reverberation Chamber’s local area network, allowing automated test data acquisition processing. For customer convenience, we provide an Android-based device for test process monitoring, control, and video monitoring/recording system.
